Pure beautyWhat are Cosmeceuticals?

Essentially cosmeceuticals is the union of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. It is the compounding of cosmetics using pharmaceutically active ingredients. Cosmetic corporations are limited in what they can incorporate into a cosmetic. Furthermore, they incorporate preservatives, dyes and perfumes that can cause allergic reactions in some patients. Our compounding professionals can make a cosmetic to suit your unique needs.

Our compounding professionals can prepare:

  • Cosmetics free of problem causing excipients such as preservatives, dyes or perfumes.
  • Cosmetics that do not contain animal products.
  • Cosmetics with active ingredients that are only available through a pharmacy.
  • We can make medication sticks, creams, lotions, foams, face serums to suit your individual preferences
  • We incorporate sun protection factor at least 15 in our products to protect against the damaging effects of the sun on the skin.

Our compounding laboratory can make an array of cosmetics including bleaching creams, acne preparations and anti-aging creams (wrinkle creams), face smoothing creams all specifically tailored to suit your unique skin type. The best thing is that they contain ingredients that have been studied and proven to work.

Rejuvenating Face Cream

Our Rejuvenating Face Cream contains active agents which results in a superior cream to those commercially available. Furthermore, it incorporates all the essential ingredients into one product, saving you money and time. Below is a description of some of the ingredients used in this cream.

Glycolic Acid – The use of alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) have aroused the public interest. There is substantial evidence that shows that AHAs have considerable therapeutic value. Studies have shown that glycolic acid (a type of AHA) can exert satisfactory rejuvenation, resulting in good skin texture with younger looking and more radiant appearance after a period of treatments. It was observed that glycolic acid reduces follicular pores and makes the skin smoother. It also acts as an exfoliant and peel. It is used to improve the skin’s appearance and texture. It reduces wrinkles, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation and improves many other skin conditions, including actinic keratosis, hyperkeratosis and seborrheic keratosis. Once applied, glycolic acid reacts with the upper layer of the epidermis, weakening the binding properties of the lipids that hold the dead skin cells together. This allows the stratum corneum to be exfoliated, exposing the smoother younger looking skin.

The glycolic acid is formulated in a pH controlled gel or cream. It is combined with emollients which help hydrate the skin.

Alpha Lipoid Acid – Our creams also contain alpha lipoic acid which is a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory acts to diminish fine lines, tighten pores, even out complexion. This all results is a natural glow to the skin. Lipoic Acid also activates a factor in the body known as AP-1, which produces enzymes that digest damaged collagen and helps erase acne scars. It also possesses a powerful anti-inflammatory effect which slows the aging process of the skin.

Vitamin E – This is a powerful antioxidant preventing damage to our skin from oxidative stress. It acts as a proxy radical scavenger, preventing the propagation of free radicals in tissues.

Co-Enzyme Q10 – This is a potent antioxidant and helps regeneration of vitamin E.

Pro-Retinol – This is also used for its antioxidant effects. It increases skin turnover and collagen synthesis. It effectively improves abnormal cell production deep in the dermis which helps the skin appear smoother and younger.

Vitamin C – This is used to stimulate collagen production and smooth out wrinkle lines by reducing their depth. It also has lightening effects on pigmented skin.
