Skin Care

dermatology

The skin is the largest organ in the body. It is the chronicle of the life of the person who wears it. The skin is affected by age, exposure to toxins, health, illness, joy, grief and whole body conditions.

Dermatological prescriptions are among the most frequently compounded. Even pharmacists who compound very little are often asked to prepare ointments and creams. Generally, this may involve something as basic as the addition on an active drug to a topical vehicle. However, many dermatological products are much more complex, reflecting the ability and facilities of the compounding pharmacist.

In general, dermatological preparations have three primary functions; to protect the injured area and permit rejuvenation, to hydrate the skin and to convey a medication to the skin for a specific effect, either locally or systemically.

When formulating a dermatological product a number of variables are considered by the compounding pharmacist to ensure efficacious, uniform and precise dosing of the active agent. Where conventional treatments have failed or are not appropriate, our lab can work with your dermatologist to formulate treatments for chronic or stubborn conditions.

Our specialised laboratory produces a wide range of topical creams, ointments, gels, lotions, pastes and medication sticks, to help treat various skin conditions and aid in compliance.
