Anti-Aging Treatments
How Does it Work?

Wrinkles are a natural part of aging. They typically form as skin elasticity and collagen production naturally declines with age, causing the middle layer of the skin (the dermis) to thin and crease. Factors like prolonged sun exposure, repeated facial expressions, and smoking can cause further damage to collagen fibers which may hasten wrinkle formation.

There are a number of at-home treatments that can be incorporated to best protect your skin from premture signs of aging.

Adequate Hydration

Water maintains skin hydration, blood volume, digestion, and healthy gut microbiome, which are all important to healthy, balanced skin. Drink 8 or more glasses of water daily to stay adequately hydrated. Tea and coffee count but plain water is best

Balanced Diet

Maintain a balanced diet as per Australian dietary guidelines to ensure you are intaking all essential vitamins, minerals, and fibres that are important for maintaining skin health and general wellness.

A sugary or fatty diet may cause disruptions in your gut microbiome, (the healthy bacteria that live in your gut to protect you from infections and support a healthy skin barrier). Avoid a sugary diet to maintain clean, and healthy skin.

Exercise

Regular exercise helps your body to naturally regulate blood flow, remove toxins from your body, and enagage your muscles to tighten loose skin by dropping excess body fat. As we age, our body is less inclined to produce muscle mass, so a regular exercise routine is important to support your strength and, by extension, your skin health.

Moisturise

Moisturisers are a useful addition to maintain adequate hydration in your skin, especially to the face. Many commerical plain moiturisers are available in our shop. Speak to any of our trained staff to help you choose the best moisturiser for your skin. For best results, apply a moisturiser 15 minutes before or 15 minutes after applying topical compounded treatments to allow time for adequate absorption of the compounded product.

Treatment Options:

To prevent premature signs of aging, compounded products can be prescribed according to your specific skin type. Our compounding specialists are experienced in compounding a variety of products that combine ingredients to have additive effects and reduce the cost of having to purchase multiple products by combining them into one.

Ingredients commonly used in anti-aging treatments include:

Resveratrol

Resveratrol is a unique compound that enhances collagen production by acitvating estrogen receptors in the skin. Collagen is an essential protein that forms the main structural components of the skin, providing it with elasticity, firmness, and hydration.

Vitamin A (Retinol)

Vitamin A, also known as retinol, stimulates fibroblasts which help develop firm, healthy skin tissue in the deep layers of your skin.

Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide)

Niacinamide is a popular B vitamin which reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and skin discolouration by boosting collagen production, strengthening the moisture barrier of the skin, and improving skin hydration.

Vitamin B5 (Panthenol)

Panthenol is another essential B vitamin which acts as a humectant, meaning it attracts water to the skin and retains moisture. Improved skin hydration boosts skin elasticity and providing a youthful plumping effect.

Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, stimulates collagen production and smooths out wrinkle lines by reducing their depth.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant helps to neutralise harmful free radicals that may cause cellular damage and oxidative stress to skin cells.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid helps reduce the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles by retaining moisture in the skin, creating a plumping effect.

Glycolic Acid

Glycolic Acid gently exfoliates the outermost layer of dead skin cells so that the exposed fresh skin may regenerate itself with more elastin and collagen, revealing a brighter and tighter complexion.

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acts as a keratolytic and gentle exfoliant, enabling deepear penetration of active ingredients into the skin. It also breaks down the outermost layer of dead skin cells to remove pore blockage and brighten the appearance of scars.

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alpha lipoic acid regulates nitric oxide in the skin which increases blood flow and reduces the appearance of pores. It also acts as an anti-oxidant and an anti-inflammatory, and it stimulates a naturally healing immune response in the skin.

Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN)

NMN is a naturally occuring compound which converts to Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) in the skin. This compound is responsible for cellular repair and essential energy metabolism, promoting healthier skin and a youthful glow.

Coenzyme Q10

CoQ10 is a naturally occuring compound that supports collagen and elastin production in the skin. However, with age, CoQ10 naturally decreases which is why topical and oral supplementation reduces premature signs of aging. It is also a strong anti-oxidant.

Anti-Wrinkle Cream: Compounded formulations can be administered topically to have direct local action on targeted areas of the skin, such as your face, arms, and chest.

Anti-Oxidant Capsules: Sometimes, practitioners may prescribe anti-oxidant capsules as opposed to a cream. Some reasons for this may include the presence of dermatological conditions that impact the absorption of a cream, or when skin damage primarly to be from oxidative stressors such as excessive sun (UV) exposure.

Hyperpigmentation
What is it?

Skin discoloration, also known as hyperpigmentation, affects many people and can look different on each person.

In some cases, skin discolouration is caused by overproduction of melanin, a naturally occuring substance within cells which provide your skin, hair, and eyes with their colour. When melanin-containing cells are damaged, overproduction of melanin may occur, leading to skin discolouration.

The most common causes of hyperpigmenation are hormanal changes, sun exposure, aging, skin trauma, infections, acne and some medications.

Treatment Options:

The goal of therapy when treating hyperpigmentation is to lighten the skin so it blends into blends into the desired skin tone.

Ingredients commonly used in anti-aging treatments include:

Tyrosinase Inhibitors

Melanin is produced from an enzyme called tyrosinase which is often the target of anti-hyperpigmentation drug treatments. Tyrosinase inhibitors work by directly blocking the production of melanin to reduce pigment. Examples include azelaic acid, kojic acid and other ingredients that are commonly prescribed by dermatologists.

Hydrocortisone

Hydrocortisone is an anti-inflammatory agent. Inflammation can also stimulate the production of melanin, which is why anti-inflammatory agents can reduce pigmentation.

Glycolic Acid

Glycolic Acid gently peels and exfoliates the top layer of skin. Shedding this outermost layer will help remove discolouration and reveal fresher, newer skin cells beneath. This may leave your skin visibily brighter, clearer and more radiant.

Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, stimulates collagen production and has lightening effects on pigmented skin.

Skin Whitening Cream: Our laboratory is experienced in producing an effective skin whitening preparation which can be applied directly to freckles, sunsopts, and blemishes to reduce their appearance. Noticeable improvement from this cream occurs after 3 to 6 months of consistent treatment.

Rejuvenating Face Cream: Our specially formulated rejuvenating face cream not only improves the texture of aged or damaged skin, it also tackles hyperpigmentation and scarring.

Numbing Cream
What is it?

Many cosmetic procedures such as laser treatments, cosmetic tattoos, and waxing treatments require local anaesthesia to numb the skin and muscles so that the procedure may be painless for the patient.

We frequently collaborate with licensed clinicians and cosmetic professionals to compound local anaesthetics a.k.a. “numbing creams” for use in cosmetic and medical procedures.

Treatment Options:

To achieve local anaesthesia, certain “numbing” ingredients such as lidocaine, tetracaine, prilocaine, or benzocaine can be applied topically to temporarily numb small areas of the body such as eyebrows for eyebrow tattooing.
